The Organization for Rare Diseases India (ORDI), a national umbrella organization representing the collective voice of all patients with rare diseases in India has launched Savemylife, a crowdfunding platform to raise funds.
Savemylife strives to improve the lives of individuals suffering from rare diseases. The platform supports ORDI’s mission to advocate for rare disease patients in India. Through collaboration, it promotes rare diseases as a human rights priority, influence public policy, and connect with advocacy organizations globally. It also accelerates diagnosis and treatment through public-private partnerships and support newborn screening, clinical trials, research, and orphan drug development.
Sharing details on the platform Prasanna Shirol, Co-founder and Board Director, ORDI, said “Our foremost aim is to support the patients find monetary assistance for their treatment programmes. We typically support individuals in dire financial need suffering from a rare/chronic/genetic disorder given the financial burden of extended treatment, supportive care, medical equipment’s, therapy etc.”
Having a vision of ‘Nobody in this world loses life due to lack of financial support,’ Shirol said “We believe in equal opportunity to avail funding and do not discriminate on the basis of religion, caste, class, gender or age. We believe every individual has a right to medical treatment and thereby do our best to support.”
