Hyderabad: A team of doctors of Prathima Hospitals successfully performed a live donor liver transplantation surgery on a two-and-half year old child from Cherlapalli who was born with a rare disease called Congenital Biliary Atresia. In this disorder, the liver ducts do not develop leading to jaundice and liver failure. “This is a genetic disorder usually occurs 1 in 10,000 patients,” the hospital said in a press release.
Parents of Master Tejanshu had approached a pediatric hospital when the boy was four months old and a procedure was performed. But after a month of procedure, the child again developed jaundice and was becoming sick with fever and blood vomiting.
The parents who are very poor couldn’t raise sufficient funds and approached Prathima Hospitals where they were provided all facilities for free of cost. The team of 20 doctors led by Dr Ch Madhusudan, senior surgical gastroenterologist and liver transplant surgeon, and Dr B Ramesh Kumar, gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Prathima Hospital, Kachiguda successfully performed the live donor liver transplantation surgery.
A portion of the liver was taken from the child’s father, transplanted to the child and the procedure went on for 18 hours, the release added.
