Broad Goals:
- To enhance ethical thinking in children’s healthcare and research.
- To create partnerships between pediatricians and social activists to promote child rights.
Specific Objectives:
- Highlight bioethical issues in common healthcare scenarios among the physicians and nurses caring for children.
- Discuss the ethics of performing clinical research with children as research participants/subjects.
- Sensitize pediatricians about their responsibility towards promoting child rights and child advocacy.
- Provide a framework for setting up multidisciplinary Pediatric Bioethics Cells.
- Increase awareness about pediatric bioethics among medical and nursing trainees as well as students of social sciences.
Expected Outcomes:
- Sensitization of pediatricians on problem solving in pediatric clinical bioethics and research involving children.
- Improved awareness of how to be an advocate for children.
- Creation of a Pediatric Bioethics Cell under the auspices of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP)
- Dissemination of key concepts from this workshop to a larger audience as a paper in the IAP’s flagship publication, Indian Pediatrics.

- Pediatricians – Pediatric Nephrology (chronic illness), Hematology-Oncology (chronic illness and end of life), NICU (viability), PICU (extraordinary care), Palliative Medicine, Adolescent Medicine (reproductive health);
- Nurses – in practice and education;
- Medical Social Workers;
- Family as a whole / advocates for the child who are not part of the treating team;
- IERB members and Residents/Medical Students.

PLEASE NOTE: Those submitting abstracts for poster presentation should do so as a word document, of not more than 300 words by October 1, 2018 to the above mentioned email address (pedethics@gmail.com). All abstracts will be assigned a code and scored by a committee of three members who will independently assess each poster. Those selected to present their poster will be notified by October 15, 2018. CME credits will be awarded as per approval of the KMC. Selected posters will be displayed for a moderated poster session walk on the day of the workshop.
