Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is a group of inherited neurological disorders that affect peripheral nerves. It leads to muscle weakness, atrophy, and sensory loss, typically starting in the feet and legs before progressing to the hands. Symptoms can include foot deformities, difficulty walking, and reduced sensation. There are several types of CMT, primarily categorized based on genetic mutations and inheritance patterns. Widespread research is going on to find curative therapies. Hopefully we will be there soon.Currently management focuses on physical therapy, orthopedic devices, and supportive care to improve quality of life.
